GreenBioBag develops custom PFAS-free coffee bags for roasters preparing packaging projects for evolving U.S. and EU requirements. Available starting directions include PCR PE and mono-material PE constructions, with stand-up, flat-bottom or side-gusset formats, resealable zippers, degassing valves and custom printing. “PFAS-free,” recycled-content, recyclability and PPWR-related claims must be supported for the finished bag through supplier declarations, traceability records and appropriate testing before market release.
PFAS-free coffee bags are flexible packages designed without PFAS-containing treatments or components within a defined claim scope. Because “PFAS-free” can imply different chemical definitions and detection limits, the claim should not rest on a general material description. It should specify whether the product contains no intentionally added PFAS, meets a defined total-fluorine limit, or complies with another documented test specification.
This distinction is important for both U.S. and EU food packaging. The FDA states that PFAS-containing grease-proofing agents used on paper and paperboard food packaging are no longer sold for food-contact use in the United States. This does not automatically establish that every coffee bag is PFAS-free, since a complete pouch may include films, coatings, inks, adhesives, zippers and valves.
GreenBioBag publishes PCR PE, mono-PE and other recyclable coffee packaging directions. PCR material can support recycled-content objectives, but its percentage, source, food-contact suitability and PPWR treatment must be verified for the exact construction.
Parameter | Recommended / Available Option | Evidence Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Product type | Custom coffee packaging bag | Verified company category | Intended for roasted beans or ground coffee after application review. |
Bag styles | Stand-up, flat-bottom or side-gusset pouch | Verified supplied options | Choose according to fill weight, shelf presentation and equipment. |
Material direction | PCR PE, mono-PE or another evaluated structure | Verified company options | Exact layer composition and recycled percentage require confirmation. |
Published PCR structure | PE / PCR PE or PCR LDPE with a thin EVOH barrier layer | Verified product-specific option | Confirm current composition, layer percentages and supplier documentation. |
PFAS specification | No intentionally added PFAS or defined analytical limit | Available upon request | Claim wording must match supplier declarations and test scope. |
Finished-bag PFAS testing | Targeted PFAS and/or total-fluorine testing | Available upon request | Laboratory method and reporting limit should suit the destination market. |
PCR percentage | Customizable | Available upon request | Verify on a mass-balance or physical-content basis as applicable. |
PCR traceability | Batch and supplier documentation | Available upon request | Required before publishing a numeric recycled-content claim. |
Coffee barrier | Oxygen, moisture, aroma and light protection | Subject to material testing | Match performance to roast, grind, shelf life and distribution. |
Degassing valve | Optional one-way valve | Verified company option | Valve material must be included in PFAS and recyclability assessments. |
Closure | Resealable zipper plus heat seal | Verified company option | Check closure compatibility with the primary pouch structure. |
Size | Customizable | Verified company option | Common project sizes include retail and bulk formats; confirm by quotation. |
Printing | Digital, flexographic or rotogravure | Verified supplied options | Inks and coatings must be included in chemical-compliance review. |
Finish | Matte, gloss, kraft-look or selected decorative finish | Verified supplied options | Some finishes may affect recyclability or chemical documentation. |
Food-contact compliance | Available upon request | Product- and market-specific evidence required | Verify the complete construction for each destination market. |
PPWR status | PPWR-focused design review | Not a verified compliance claim | “PPWR-ready” requires assessment beyond PFAS and PCR content. |
Recyclability | Subject to structure and regional system assessment | Evidence required | PCR content alone does not make a package recyclable. |
MOQ | Available upon request | Current quotation required | Depends on format, materials, printing and order volume. |
Lead time | Available upon request | Current quotation required | Confirm after structure, testing and artwork approval. |
These PFAS-free packaging bag concepts can be evaluated for:
Whole-bean specialty coffee
Ground coffee
Single-origin and premium roast collections
Retail stand-up coffee pouches
Side-gusseted wholesale packs
Coffee subscription and e-commerce packaging
Private-label and contract-packed coffee
EU-bound coffee products undergoing PPWR preparation
U.S. coffee brands reviewing packaging chemical policies
Freshly roasted coffee releases carbon dioxide, so valve requirements should be determined from roast profile, degassing behaviour and packing schedule. Ground coffee may need a different oxygen and aroma barrier from whole beans.
Final material selection should be confirmed through filling, sealing, valve, migration, barrier, transport and shelf-life testing. PCR materials should also be assessed for odor, appearance, consistency, regulatory suitability and barrier performance.
Bag format: Stand-up pouch, flat-bottom pouch or side-gusseted bag
Material direction: PCR PE, mono-PE, bio-based or another evaluated structure
PCR content: Project-specific percentage supported by traceability evidence
PFAS scope: No intentionally added PFAS declaration and/or defined laboratory testing
Barrier: Oxygen, moisture, aroma and light protection
Closure: Standard zipper, pocket zipper, tin tie or heat-seal configuration
Valve: One-way coffee degassing valve where required
Opening aids: Tear notch or laser scoring
Printing: Digital, flexographic or gravure printing
Finish: Matte, gloss, soft-touch, spot UV or embossing where compatible
Size: Custom width, height, gusset and fill capacity
Artwork support: Disposal wording, recycled-content disclosure and QR-code space
Documentation package: Material declaration, recycled-content evidence, food-contact records and available test reports
The bag body, sealant, ink, adhesive, zipper and valve should be reviewed as one finished package. A PFAS declaration for only the primary film does not substantiate an unrestricted PFAS-free claim for the complete coffee bag.
GreenBioBag’s published portfolio includes recyclable coffee bags made with mono-PE and PCR PE material directions. It also lists stand-up, flat-bottom and side-gusseted formats, custom sizes, digital and gravure printing, resealable zippers, tear notches and coffee valves.
