What are coffee bags made of?

A survey shows that 65% of customers consider the packaging bag material when shopping coffee. They believe the better packaging bag will keep the coffee more fresh. So what is a good coffee bag made of?

A good coffee bag should be with high barrier material to keep the freshness of coffee. With our experience, laminate materials will be with the highest barrier, rather than single layer paper or plastic. Sure that the highest barrier is laminate materials with aluminum. So the outside layer is for printing, like PET, kraft paper. The laminated material is mostly for barrier to keep the freshness, like aluminum, VMPET, ect. And the inner layer is for heat sealing and they must be food grade if to pack food, like PE. That is "regular bag" we called because of the regular material. The printed aluminum foil coffee bag can keep the coffee about 18 months.

However, more and more people prefer the sustainable materials, that are compostable bag or recyclable bag. For the 100% fully compostable bag, the bag material should be NK/ Kraft paper/ PBAT. But they will just keep about 10 months. Compostable bags can be degradable in 180 days or less under composting conditions, which will not do harm to our environment. It is an important topic. That is why the compostable bag is more and more popular with our clients.

Anyway, some of clients think the compostable bags are with higher price, although they prefer compostable bag. So we think recyclable bag is best choice for them. Recyclable coffee bags are laminated with 2 layers of PE. And they can keep the freshness about 12 months. Recyclable bags can be made into other product. It will cut down more waste for our environment.
